PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This five-day course has been specifically designed for Rural Medical Practitioners who would like to become proficient in all the basic concepts of ultrasound scanning at the bedside.

SPECIFIC TOPICS INCLUDE

• Basic practical physics, "knobology" and artifacts
• Probe manipulation techniques
• Scanning protocols in:
  • First Trimester Obstetrics
  • Basic Second Trimester Biometry
  • Gynaecology
  • Abdomen & Abdominal Vasculature
  • Abdominal trauma (EFAST)
• Necessary equipment criteria
• Designing protocols to suit your practice

COURSE OBJECTIVES

1. To provide an overview of the physical principles and artifacts associated with ultrasound in rural medicine
2. To provide scanning skills required in maximising diagnostic ability
3. To provide and understanding of protocols required in answering common clinical questions
4. To provide an understanding of typical system requirements
