AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE OF ULTRASOUND

Since 1995 the Australian Institute of Ultrasound has provided continuing education programs for sonographers and many types of specialist doctors such as Radiologists, Emergency Medicine Physicians, Rural GPs and Cardiologists.

Our volunteers provide a vital role in this "hands-on" tuition. There is no substitute for learning on "real" people, so, by acting as models they help these medical folk to reach the highest standard of care for the community.

What type of people do we need?

Every type from young to old - the students scan every type in real-life too, so we need to simulate that.

What do we scan?

Most parts of the body from gall bladders & livers through arteries, veins, uterus,prostate and all stages of pregnancy. We also have courses for muscle & joint scanning.

How long does it take?

Appointments are a maximum of 1 hour

How many students will there be scanning me?

Usually 2 or 3 - almost never more than that and there are highly experienced tutors on hand at all times

Is this like a real scan?

NO - we DO NOT give out reports, but if we find anything unusual that you don't know about we will tell you and notify your doctor if you want us to.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes, your partner or friend is welcome to come along
