I left school wanting to be a writer, dabbled in theatre, Russian, and environmental physics at UQ and then swapped to Medicine. I kept one foot in arts and one in medicine ever since. I hold specialist qualifications in Paediatrics and Emergency Medicine in Ireland and Australia, and have been a staff specialist in paediatric emergency (now at Lady Cilento CHildren Hospital) in Brisbane since 1999 three days a week. Within the arts I have continued writing short stories, poetry, and a childrens novel, and collected many hundreds of world lullabies, which I have spoken on at national and international conferences. I have coordinated many children art projects
including the Bumbletown adventures after the death of our ten year old daughter, celebrated in the SBS documentary "After Maeve" and related website www.planetcreature.com.au. In 2012 I helped set up Sprung!! Integrated Dance Theatre Inc, Honouring the creative spirit through dance, theatre, integration and collaboration. Since then we have held 25 one-day and 8 multi-day workshops, created 5 new dance works, hosted a panel on arts and disability, and our dancers have been represented at two national gatherings and in 6 photographic exhibitions. What I love about both emergency department work and dance theatre work is recognising the individual gifts each team member brings and finding ways to harness these
to a unified outcome greater than the sum of our parts. When it works its truly amazing.
