Ultrasound Guided Practical Nerve Blocks for Pain Management of the Lower Limb

This event will look at lower limb nerve blocks & their utility in pain management for procedures, trauma & ongoing pain management.
This 1 day program is specifically designed for health professionals who have an interest in ultrasound guided nerve blocks of the lower limb. This course may suit Sports Medicine Physicians, Anaesthetists, Emergency Medicine Physicians or specialists in Rehabilitation Medicine.
Dr Paul Ohmsen, an experienced Sports Medicine specialist based on the Gold Coast, will be sharing his experiences & knowledge on this topic which is a special interest area in his practice.
The course will include a refresher introduction in lower limb nerve anatomy & sonoanatomy. It will also include hands on sessions with patient volunteers to image all of the various nerve regions. Dr Ohmsen will present a series of case studies of the unusual & complex cases he has managed. There will then be an interactive session with Dr Ohmsen around practical scanning & procedures where delegates can ask about specific procedures & the technique, patient position & system setup for a variety of scenarios.
Dr Paul Ohmsen
Dr Ohmsen is a Sports & Exercise Physician based on the Gold Coast with more the 20 years experience. Dr Ohmsen has a special interest in pain management both for acute injuries & more chronic conditions & has been using ultrasound guidance for many years. Paul is currently part of the Member Peer Review Group – Ultrasound for the Australasian College of Sports & Exercise Physicians.
Dr Ohmsen is also involved with AUSNEP as a board member & advising physician. AUSNEP is a registered charity that assists with educational & medical work in Nepal.
In an teaching capacity Dr Ohmsen has previously held roles as an Associate Professor at Bond University & Clinical Lecturer in Exercise Science & Physiotherapy at Griffith Uni.
Dr Ohmsen has been the Medical Director of the Gold Coast Marathon for 25 years. He has also previously been affiliated with the Gold Coast Suns & the Gold Coast Titans football teams.
