Description

This point of care ultrasound course for rural and remote medicine will help you to gain the practical skills and technical know-how to confidently perform common procedures in the Rural Generalist arsenal, including ultrasound guided vascular access, nerve blocks, fluid localisation and foreign body removal.

Informed use of point of care ultrasound (PoCUS) can assist rural clinicians to risk stratify clinical decision making in the challenging contexts presented in rural and remote medicine. This five-day course targets important branch points in patient management decisions rather than a deep dive into any one system and is perfect for the Rural Generalist.

Answer clinical questions at the bedside or roadside with nothing more than a handheld ultrasound, such as:

  • Does my patient with abdominal pain have an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), cholecystitis or hydronephrosis?
  • What is the cause of my patient’s shocked state?
  • Could this be an ectopic pregnancy?
  • Does this patient have a pneumothorax?
  • Is this COPD or heart failure? How can I differentiate the dyspnoeic patient?

Take these tools home, practise in your own environment, then work with us toward credentialing in those protocols that will have the highest yield in your practice.
